Heartland hosts Illinois Prison Project panel on April 17
April 10, 2025Heartland Community College students and the general public will have an opportunity to learn about the incarceration experience at a symposium held on the Main Campus of the college.
Heartland Community College students are is presenting “From Cell-2-Self: Psychological Transitions in Post-Prison Life” at the Astroth Community Education Center (ACEC) Auditorium from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 17.
The presentation will highlight the experiences of panelists from the Illinois Prison Project, who will discuss the incarceration experience, the impact on their lives, and the barriers they have faced upon re-entry after release.
Panelists include Ronnie Carrasquillo who served over forty-five year in prisons and is the subject of the PBS documentary In Their Hands. The panel will be moderated by Renaldo Hudson. The panel will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.
This event is free and open to the community. Local organizations will have informative tables relevant to many aspects of incarceration, rehabilitation and release.
The event is organized by Heartland Community College students enrolled in Psychology 209: Human Growth & Development and is funded through Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (LASS) Innovation Grant funds established by Heartland.
